Whitney Elizabeth Houston is a artist who was born in Newark, New Jersey on the 9th of August, 1963. Her parents are gospel singers Cissy Houston(n e Emily Lee Drinkard), and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney's cousin Dionne warwick also sings. Her mother and she began to sing professionally together at New Hope Baptist Church in Newark at the age of fifteen years old. The two sang backing vocals on Chaka Khan's track in 1978 Im Every Woman. Her mother, Jermaine, and Lou Rawls were a few of the performers she performed with.
