April Ross
April Ross is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball stars who have won medals in multiple Olympics. She is set to compete in Tokyo for her third Olympic medal alongside Alix Klineman, who is a first-time Olympian. Ross also hopes to get her first Olympic medal. With her age of 39, this may be her final chance to take home the gold medal at an Olympics. Nevertheless, she remains convinced of winning top awards. Ross told NBC Boston that if they play their best, or play a great game, she believes the team can win a gold medal. Therefore, I'm hoping to have the chance too. Ross was born August 22nd, 1982 in Costa Mesa California. She resided in the area along with her entire family. Ross played in numerous sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. As a pre-schooler she was a participant in indoor volleyball along with basketball as well as running track. She was definitely an edge over the other players in the latter sport. In her own biography, during high school she played volleyball as an outside setter (middle blocker) and setting (outside blocker). She was awarded the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the year in 1999, for her performance. She also won an Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Ross and Klineman have been performing their roles since 2017. The reality is that Ross played a significant role in the world of beach volleyball prior to the pair. It's true that she's had numerous big wins and one partner was an all-star volleyball player. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 through 2013. Kessy was Ross's partner on the World Championships of 2009. In 2012, the pair were awarded silver medals at the London Olympics. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor clinched gold ahead of them. Ross became Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's departure. In 2016, the pair were awarded bronze medals at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross began her college career with the USC Trojans in her high school days. It was a long time before Ross went to the sand and turned pro. It was a successful run for Ross at the school. She was a All-American and Pac-10 freshman of the year in 2000 as a young freshman. Her performance also assisted in helping the Trojans to make it to into the Final Four. The Trojans were devastated through a tragedy in her life during her second year, but she went on to be an All-American in her second year. In her two final years with the Trojans they helped to win two consecutive titles. In 2003-2004, she was named the best female volleyball player at a collegiate level in America through The Honda Sports Award. Ross studied International Relations at USC. Unfortunately Ross mom Margie did not get to see her daughter ascend to the highest levels of beach volleyball stardom. Ross lost her mom to cancer of the breast in the year 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. Ross holds her mother dear. Margie is a source of inspiration both in her personal life and at the beaches.
